David Bowie is an English singer and songwriter born in 1947 changing his name from Jones to Bowie in 1966 to avoid confusion with Davy Jones of The Monkees. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, while his music and stagecraft significantly influenced ing popular music. He was known for creating characters or alter-egos, such as Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane or The Thin White Duke. He killed off his most famous character, Ziggy Stardust, onstage during the last song of the last performance of the tour, telling the audience, “Not only is it that last show of the tour, it’s the last show we’ll ever do.”
David Bowie was regarded as a pioneer, who experimented with various styles of music during his career. He also launched “Bowie Bonds”, earning him US$55 million up front, an early example of celebrity bonds, and “BowieNet”, his own internet service provider.
David Bowie died in January 2016 two days after the release of his final album, Blackstar.
